Un's new newsletter
Let's go!
Beginnings are hard.
Beginnings are hard. Here we go.
Why this, why now
I tend to pontificate on social media. Instagram may be over, but I am still over there stubbornly using it like in the olden days. Mostly photos with long, story-esque captions. Sometimes, I envy those friends who post a single photo with no words or a single sentence descriptor. That is not my MO. I pontificate. I use my feed like a journal-slash-conversation between the world and me. It’s a collection of what moves me — to tears, laughter, anger, swooning, to write. Mostly, my thoughts are preoccupied by food and art and films and books, sometimes music, often my family, and the worries and wonders of the world. A friend once suggested that I start a newsletter. As a better way to present my thoughts and ideas, and without the constraints of the Instagram word limit.
It is currently winter solstice season in the year 2022. We are on the cusp of yet another year. Every year, since that year my friend planted the seed, I say, “I will start that newsletter.” Every year, “write more,” is at the top of new year’s resolutions (we call them “intentions” now, did you know?) Every year, I endeavor to write more for myself, rather than solely for others. Turns out 2023 is now that year. I am starting with this newsletter. Welcome! Thank you for being here.
The community I’m looking to build
This is mostly for myself and my circle. If folx beyond that want to read it too, fantastic! We are big tent here. Omnivorous in our interests and tastes. Come for the intersectional feminist politics, stay for the hot takes on butter boards.
I like writing that is vetted and highly contextualized. I’ll endeavor to do this on a bi-monthly basis. I’m not good at sticking to schedules. Plans change.
